House Pics again

Sorry, I intended to keep all of my valued long-distance friends updated with thorough and cheerful blog entries on the progress of our house. I did write a few unpublished posts. They remain Unpublished because I read them later and am ashamed at how whiney and ungrateful I sound complaining about everything.

Let's just try to sum up the last 4 months of my life by saying I loathe the process of house building. I will never do it again. I think I will be very happy with our new house, but I have no intention of ever repeating this process in my lifetime. I have used the words "This is a Nightmare!" so many times in the last two months that it has become cliche. Many would probably say I'm overreacting to 75% of what I'm complaining about, but that is just further proof that I am not good at this. Too much stress and too much money at stake if mistakes are made or you change your mind. Nope. House-Building is not for me.

So, I'm putting it out there. It is very hard for me to admit, but I am telling the world that I have NOT had a happy summer. In the end things will work out. They will not be perfect, (yes, I knew it wouldn't be PERFECT, but it was going to be pretty darn close), but it will be close enough and I'll finally will have a house with enough space and enough details that are right for us to be very comfortable for a long time.

Indulge me for one moment while I discuss my latest nightmare. Here's a tip for those of you who might be attempting your own house-building. When you think you need an extra inch of length in your kitchen wall to perfectly fit your carefully selected perfect cabinets, but your builder says it should be fine as is, go with your gut! I forgot about including cover panels in my cabinet measurements, and because my wall measurements were made with only 1" for error, I now will not be having cover panels. (I probably needed needed about 1 1/2 more inches to make it work.) I know. Not a big hairy deal in the big scheme of things, but I am the type of person who dots all the "i"s and crosses all the "t"s, and that is very hard to do when there are 500 "i"s and "t"s needing attention simultaneously.

Anyway...now you see why I haven't posted all summer! Whiney Whiney Whiney! Shame on me! : ) I promise I'll stop now.

But, here's some pictures. I will survive! These pictures are old. We already have a roof done and siding. Shaun's dad is coming to start the brick trim in front tomorrow. I'll get me new pictures uploaded eventually.

It will probably be move-in ready in about 6 weeks!

(P.S. Words of encouragement are always welcome! I need them!)

I kind of understand what you're going through. When Joe and I were engaged, my parents were building a house of their own. It was very stressful. I was at the new house a lot doing things like tarring the foundation, painting, picking up stray nails, etc, etc, etc. And to plan a wedding at the same time was just a huge stressful pain in the rear end. Granted, it was not my house and I didn't even do half as much as work as my parents did but still, I learned my lesson a long time ago.

Good luck to you guys though. Sorry to hear about the cabinet/kitchen mess, that is just no fun. It will work out in the end and you will love your new home. :D

Love and miss you guys!

Hey...some people are built for details and even good at being cool under pressure, but that isn't me..thanks for telling me not to build a house, hopefully I will find a suitable preowned for me :). I have had clients ask if I want to go to the builder "design" center...not in my lifetime, that is all I have to say. Some people love it. Will come to see you next time I round through Idaho, would love to see your house..earned by one unhappy summer.

I have heard, from everyone I have ever known who has built a custom house, that it is a giant pain. You're doing fine. One day it will be done and you will love it. I know it will be gorgeous. I really have no doubt whatsoever. I can't wait for more pictures.

LARA, oh my gosh. I hope things have improved over the past six months. I am going to have to demand pictures of the fam and kids and your house. I am assuming you are in it. I should just give you a call...I could definitely use an update and a Lara fix.
