Erik's Snow Day Entertainment

We had some very cold days last week. Erik was stuck in the house while Ben was at school. So he got out all of the Target sacks that I have waiting to take to the library to be "recycled" for patrons who need something to carry home their borrowed books. How do you play this game? "I phrow them and hold them when I start." This is a game he has played several times before, usually all over the living room or kitchen. He was so content this particular day just throwing armfuls of sacks and watching them float down over him. I decided to take a few pictures for posterity since it truly is one of his favorite past-times. Way to find happiness in the simple things, Erik!

New (Old) Haircut

After letting my hair grow below my shoulders, it was time for a cut. I ended up with a shoulder-length, slightly layered bob. Those of you who knew me at least three years ago will recognize this as my Standard Haircut that I have had on and off since 8th grade. But, I've gone through a couple years now of, well, let's say experimental haircuts, so having my old standby is feeling good right now.

My most "experimental" hair experience was my trip to the spanish-speaking salon one block from our first apartment when we moved to Colorado. The woman (man? honestly not sure) who did my hair then, interpreted my english words "I would like a trim" into spanish for "Cut the back with buzzers, give the bangs an early 80s feathered look, and finish with lots of AquaNet." To top it off, when I went to pay for this, they didn't take debit cards. So I had to quickly walk home, scrape together some cash (which included a handful of quarters) and go back to pay.

Anyway, the new (old) haircut is working out fine. Its still long enough to pull back when necessary (for some reason its almost always necessary) yet I can wear it down without it driving me crazy all day. Here are the boys' reactions when they saw the new 'do:

Shaun: That looks Great! (he's always upbeat because he's learned I usually hate it).
Ben: You look like an alien! (I'm taking that as a compliment.)
Erik: You look like someone who has been playing video games all day!
Me: Is that good or bad?
Erik: That's bad.

So, I think it is a success overall, and I will now be more closely monitoring the time that Erik is spending playing computer games.

New Addition to Join Petes for 4th of July!

Yep, its true! The "1/2" of the above mentioned "4 (1/2) Petes" will be arriving sometime around the 4th of July. We are all very excited about the new baby. For some reason, Ben has been hoping for a little sister for literally years now (and he's only six!). We keep telling him it might not be a girl, but he's excited nonetheless. Ben, being a "Science Kid" (a title he gave himself a few months ago), loves reading up on the subject of fetal development. He is watching my growing belly with GREAT interest (even though its not that big yet). Yesterday, as I was standing in the kitchen getting a drink of water, he declared "MOM! Can you still see your feet?? Yes, I can thank you. And thanks for noticing.

Jumping on the blogging bandwagon (gulp!)

Hello Friends and Family,

I'm jumping on the blogging bandwagon. For some reason I have resisted blogging. I think mainly because most of the bloggers I had heard of were very public (and usually political) ranters and ravers I heard about on the evening news. Not something me and my quiet, personal self really wanted to be involved in. But lately I've discovered many of my friends are using blogs to communicate with far-flung friends and family. Now that I can relate to.

So, I'm new at this, but I'll give it a good try!
